History
Ikon Hotel was built in 1912 by J.T Alexander, a member of the prominent Alexander Family. who pioneered European settlement at Table Cape. J.T Alexander had previously leased the Sea View (BEACH HOTEL) from 1902-1910 and with financial assistance from family decided to build his own hotel. Formerly known as The Club Hotel which was Burnie’s largest and most extravagant early hotel. Architecturally Ikon Hotel is an excellent and very prominent building, dominated by the tall pyramidal tower and flanking verandahs featuring cast iron valances and balustrades.
